From October till May students from class 4ATEC have been engaged in the etwinning project named “Cultural Bridges: Connecting Students Worldwide”, a project based on survey results indicating that students wanted to communicate in English with peers from other countries. They expressed a strong desire to establish contact, engage in conversations and form new friendships.
So, each month, students from Italy, Poland and Gran Canary Island have met in their teams online via Google Meet for a 45-60 minute conference and they discussed several topics, such as getting to know each other, cross-cultural education and insights into schooling systems, landmarks and exploring our countries’ tourist attractions, big names- big impact: our Countries’ Celebs & Legends. Soon after each meeting, students created and updated their book of friendship in a canva file: each group wrote down the best parts of the conference, with pictures and comments.
They also created a padlet to share descriptions of the most famous dishes from their regions along with recipes. This collaborative activity allowed students to explore local gastronomy, exchange cultural knowledge, enhance language skills, develop research skills, foster collaboration.

The most rewarding part of the project was the speaking practice: even the shiest students have broken the ice, have challenged themselves and have done their best to communicate in a different language. And, what’s more, they have realized it is a lot of fun!

The last week of May students and teachers from the three countries have met online to conclude the project with a fun interactive Kahoot quiz for all students, to check what they have learned. After the celebration of the top 3 players, some students shared comments and favourite memories from the project. A group photo (screenshot) has been taken and farewell in each language has been exchanged. We teachers and students hope we will replicate such an amazing project in the future…we have just started to build our bridges throughout Europe and we are looking forward to keeping on doing great things!
